Fortunate and unfortunate for us, the U.S. tax code and tax landscape is ever-evolving…

And let me tell you, the year 2023 brought with it some genuinely eyebrow-raising, yet perfectly legitimate tax deductions!

Now, I’m not just talking about the usual suspects we all tend to acknowledge (begrudgingly) each tax season. No, this year’s lineup features a few unexpected guests that could very well change the way we look at our annual tax returns.

For instance, did you know that under certain conditions, your home garden could trim down your tax bill?!

Sure, we’re accustomed to the standard deductions — mortgage interest, charitable donations, and the like — but 2023 decided to be a bit more adventurous. From the cost of maintaining a home office (a nod to the persisting work-from-home trend) to certain environmentally-friendly home improvements, the range of what you can deduct might just surprise you.
